Before being diagnosed with endometrial cancer, I had never heard of “cold capping”. As I went through chemotherapy, I realized a lot of people have never heard of it either. Cooling the scalp during chemotherapy is thought to prevent hair loss by affecting two cellular processes: (1) Blood flow to hair follicle cells is reduced, therefore exposing them to less chemotherapy medications, and (2) the rate of cellular metabolism is slowed, thereby reducing the effect of whatever chemo medication is present.

Cold caping is not covered by health insurance and that is how I found the nonprofit organization, Hair to Stay. Hair to Stay helps fund capping for those who cannot afford it.
Hair is a big part of your identity and it’s very traumatic losing your hair along with going through cancer treatment.

I turn 40 years old September 7, 2024 and for my birthday I want to raise money for Hair to Stay to help those who cannot afford cold capping. During my treatment, I asked my friends and family to support me and join me for a Christmas Day plunge. There were over 100 people who showed up on Christmas Day to jump in the freezing cold water with me and I can safely say everyone that plunged loved it! I’m asking all of you to donate for this cause that is near and dear to my heart and if you’d like to plunge along with a donation, to feel the effects of having a a brain freeze (like Cold Capping).

Thank you all in advance for your support of this fantastic organization!

Lots of love,

Ali
